RBFF Partners with Open Angler to Increase Participation in Fishing

The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation chooses Open Angler to power online booking of fishing charters, providing access to thousands of fishing trip providers across the country with the click of a button.

CHARLESTON, SC (December 22, 2017) – The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) has selected to partner with Open Angler in an effort to increase fishing charter bookings with charter captains around the country. This partnership will use Open Angler’s online reservation platform to power online booking of fishing boats, and aims especially to reach a younger generation of anglers.

RBFF President and CEO Frank Peterson spoke to the importance of adopting technology in order to accomplish the goals of the organization, which include a campaign to grow participation to 60 million anglers in 60 months.

“...this new partnership with Open Angler is so exciting. It provides us with valuable new data for the TakeMeFishing.org Places to Boat & Fish Map and targets a promising group of new angling recruits, providing a quality fishing experience with the potential to create lifelong anglers.”

Using Open Angler’s tools, TakeMeFishing.org’s Places to Fish & Boat Map will provide links to fishing boats and fishing charters, allowing users to directly book whatever kind of trip they desire: deep sea fishing; tuna fishing; salmon fishing; saltwater fishing trips; any sport fishing trips imaginable will be available to reserve with the click of a button.

“This is a huge win for the sport fishing industry, it marks one of the first major partnership opportunities to bring digital reservations and online booking to the community, making it easier to get more people on the water with reputable guides and charter operators,” said Alicia Aloe of Open Angler.

Open Angler spans 37 states, coast-to-coast, with offerings like deep sea fishing in San Diego, or Key West fishing charters, and everything in between.

“RBFF’s work is paving the way towards a more positive future for our industry, and we have no doubt this partnership will continue to further enhance those efforts.”

RBFF reports that youth participation in fishing increased by 3% in 2016, bringing the total to 11 million. When choosing partnerships, RBFF looks for opportunities that will continue to help this number increase over the years.
